原题是:Olympic Foods那个,应该是题库AA里的第一题。 In this argument, the author concludes thatas the company becomes more experienced, it can minimize costs and thusmaximize profits. The author draws the conclusion by citing the example of colorfilm processing, where the alleged conclusion did happen. Appealing as it seemsat first glance, this argument involves several logic flaws. First, it is doubtful whether the increasedefficiency in color film processing is solely caused by organization’sexperience. The author fails to consider many other possible factors. Forexample, a major technological breakthrough may have contributed to theenhanced efficiency. Moreover, technological advancement may actually be theleading factor. If this is the case, the argument that experience leads tohigher efficiency is clearly weak. Second, the author assumes that the foodprocessing industry is analogous to color film processing industry. Thisassumption is apparently wrong because differences between the two industriesclearly outweigh the similarities. What happened in color film processingindustry doesn’t necessarily happen in food processing industry. It might bethe case that food processing industry has reached a peak regarding theefficiency of processing; whereas color film processing is a relatively newindustry where much improvement can be made. Third, even though the organization canincrease efficiency as it becomes more experienced at food processing, the merefact that Olympic Foods is embracing its 25th birthday doesn’t meanit has become experienced. The company may have been ill-managed or haverecently lost many experienced workers, both of which actually harm theexperience of the company. To sum up, the author’s claim is notlogically convincing. To make his argument more tenable, the author would haveto, first of all, prove that the increased efficiency in color film processingis largely due to more experience of organizations. In addition, the authorneeds to demonstrate that the food processing industry is in a similar positionas color film industry is so that further improvement is possible. Moreover, the author has to show that Olympic Foods has actually become more experiencedas it ages. |
