b. doubling that of the increase in
c. double as much as the increase of
d. twice as many as the increase in
e. twice as many as the increase of

why the answer is A, not B? also what's wrong with D and E?

这个帖子上面有具体的解释。其实CD上有帖子对这个题进行讨论，不过是讨论，没有确定的解释。

修改一下, 之前说错了; 恩。。我自己觉得还可以补充一个double的用法，double可以是不及物或者及物动词，double as much as something，本身就存在错误，因为double 本身的意思就是 to make something twice as much, 所以double as much as是unidiomatic, 只能 twice as much as；一定要这么说，就要改成：A doubles something as much as B does (something).
分开说：A double B， A is twice as much as B，这两个意思是一致的,用法正确, 但混在一起，意思就产生了歧义了。

修改一下...twice和double还有点没搞清楚的, 你先看看总结吧.我过些时候来补上.
