纯攒人品,把我US的亲戚给我的一封信和大家分享一下。 Truth telling momnet for MBA prospect in 2009
Sorry for the late reply, you caught me at a very busy time and your email got lost in the middle of it. It is great to hear from you! My mom told me about her visit to China this summer and I'm glad she was able to see all family relatives.
As for your question, i guess ultimately you must ask yourself where you want to be. 10 Years from now would you rather be working toward a career in the U.S. or start a family in China? Would you rather do a international business? If so, what companies are you interested in? Ultimately, is this international exposure necessary to get you where you want to be in life? Because it could often be difficult for internationals to assimilate to the U.S. culture and be happy in the earlier years. We should always look at our long term goals when making these decisions.
To answer your questions, at the current moment the U.S. job market is still doing pretty terrible. I was working at P&G over the summer and from their intern pool I saw many MBA students (from Notre Dame, Duke university...) that were interning and having a difficult time finding full time jobs. In addition, in the previous years 90% of the interns were offered an returning offer as full time. However, this year the hiring significant reduced to less than 50% of the interns were given offers. To further reiterate my point, many of my classmates at Tulane Universities who just recently received their Bachelors in Business are coming back to get a Masters because they were not able to find their desired jobs. I was lucky enough to have a couple of internships set up because I applied early. So if you are looking into the job market I highly suggest start networking and interviewing a year and maybe even a year and half in advance. Furthermore, if you're going to pursue a postgraduate degree, the MBA is much much more valuable than masters in Finance.
With all of this said, you may feel a bit discouraged. However, I will tell you that the job market will turn around and by the time that you're finished with graduate school things will look much better. I'm very confident in the ability of the U.S. economy to come back strong. In addition, from what my mother tells me I'm certain you're a very intelligent and hardworking individual and will be successful wherever you go. Just be prepared to continue to work hard. If you have any other questions, feel free to consult me. good luck and I look forward to speaking to you soon. |
