选校 UMass vs. HKU

请各位大侠给些意见；职业目标是在大学当个faculty

University of Massachusetts Amherst, hD in Management Science

HKU, hD in Information Systems

HKU是综合的名气高，但商科规模很小，IS系不清楚，反正不是很出名。香港的IS以科大和城大的比较好吧。University of Massachusetts Amherst这所学校没听过，你可以看看他们的faculty是什么人，发的paper都是什么档次的，就可以看看你能跟怎样的老板，最好同时看看毕业生的placement统计，毕竟大家读完都是为了找个好工作。

嗯。感觉在HK读PhD，以后的出路是个问题。当然HKU毕业在HK的industry找份工作还是很不错的。

HKU商学院每个track只招一人。是很小哦。其实HKU IS规模虽小，但每个老师都是大牛，Patrick Chau可能是HK最牛的IS researcher. Allen Lee好像要去城大了情况可能就不一样了

UMass Management Science has a strong point --- supply chain network. The research team is quite active in INFORMS (as a PhD applicant in MS/OR domain, you should know INFORMS quite well). Dr Nagurney, the leader of the group, has been awarded highly by INFORMS and transportation societies. You may check with her if you decide to go to UMass.

The main innovation of this research is that (1) it takes an (game theoretic) equilibrium perspective of supply chain network, rather than an optimization perspective; (2) it takes a holistic view of supernetwork, which allows the researchers to treat endogeneously the price, demand and orders of the players.

Amherst is extremely quiet and peaceful. It only has one single street as "downtown area"... It is consistently ranked as the "most safest" town in US. But it is not a place for people who like big-city life.

LZ 要是去UMass的话，未来就是同行了哦，呵呵，而且我未来的方向也是 (game theoretic) equilibrium perspective of supply chain network。

很可能2010年的Informs年会上相会。

选择HKU还是Umass，可以考虑下LZ自己的兴趣方向。毕竟IS与MS还是有区别的。
