I have received the offer of South Carolina, Finance Ph.D. I have also applied NYU's mfe and was also accepted.

My final goal is to go to a good Ph.D finance program, such as MIT. Shall I choose South Carolina's Ph.D. or NYU's mfe?

If I go to NYU, I still have the chance to go to my dream school, MIT, in the following year. If I go to South Carolina, I have to give my dream up.

Help. I have to reply to both schools before April 15th. Any advices are greatly appreciated.

If I were u, I will defntiely choose USC, which is also a very decent school.

Be honest, mit is not that easy to get in if u are not that strong and u are not so lucky.

who knows what will happen after 2years. maybe u mature more and don't think ur dream is that reasonable.

by the way, if u concern the placement of phd, they are many guys come from top tier schools end up with tier3 school and some guy who is really smart can get very decent placement from non-top tier school.

Don't take too serious about the school's name. it only satisfy ur own feeling but nothing.

My GMAT is 740, GRE 1400 (600+800),MS Finance in top 10 Business school, with GPA 3.93/4. My undergraduate major is electrical engineering.

It is still a hard decision to make. I will take your advices and let me think again.

if you could only get in at sc this year, i do not think a one year master program at nyu could make you a competitive applicant next year at mit.

it is u of south carolina, not u of southern california... you have to take risk if you choose go to NYU. For MIT, it is about luck. Dont count too much on the mfe program if your target is schools like mit.

PS: u of south carolina和u of southern california天壤之别。

如果LZ收到offer了，他应该指的是southern吧。

其实这不是选择题，完全用排除法就行了，NYU MFE找工作还行，在这2年形势下就不好说了，等于烧钱。
今年很多北美的ivy背景的都冒出来了，一些非顶级学校竟然有哈佛的来申请，难以置信。
if you are strong, just make a name in south caro.
if you are not strong enough, do not waste time in fantasies. sorry to be harsh.
MIT is THE dream school for most finance guys...
