econ phd may be more accessable for u, but I'm not sure. Also make sure econ phd accept Gmat score. I don't think that is the ture. I only know NYU econ master accept GMAT.some econ master may also give u scholarship , like GATECH.

ur mom's background would help u a little.but not much.

try to find some big guy in econ area to write a good RL for u, that will be a big plus.

Also, bbs.gter.net is a good place for u to ask questions about econ phd. This forum is mainly for business phd like finance and accounting.

I guess GRE is more popular in econ, almost nobody took GMAT.
Some UK schools are also good at econ, like LSE, Oxford, and your school UCL is OK for research capacity.

So why do you change major, because you don't like it or what? If you still like health related field, I suggest getting a phd in health policy management. I don't know what other schools offer, but harvard business school has it cooperating with harvard medical school. 3/4 professors come from hbs and 1/4 from medical school.

i'm just bored of killing rat all the time,which makes me sick!. i dunt think i can manage to get in harvard . Besides,there are few uni offering that course. but it's at least worth to try

if the big guy(make sure he is well known in US university, at least have some relationship with the school u want to applly) really have a good relationship with ur family, he may like to make some stories for u. (we chinese always like this)

about GATECH, i knew a undergraduate student from Fudan got gatech's full scholarship of econ master, but I'm not sure when she was accepted. U may consider checking GTER since I saw this post on that website. Maybe that post is in the elite part.

为什么想faculty道路呢，这个难度还是很大的，需要进入美国top 20学校PhD才比较可能，或者就是回国，但是
国内也很认牌子的。感觉还是读一个带奖或者允许贷款的master，然后找个好工作比较现实些
