这道题我也错了，但是我不大同意ls的观点.

A,Americans of...were  as likely as the national average was

B,as the average American to be self-employed

Be 动词是否需要省略要看具体情况。著名的PREP里面有一个Stresses that girls experience are more likely to result in depression than are those boys experience. 因为than 前面是一个名词depression,所以要补上be动词。

 我认为这题的重点在于比较对象。national average 和Americans “人”不对称。同样prep也有一个题，an average global warming.../a global warming that average.Average 这个词既是名词又是形容词，出现在比较对象的对等上面很Tricky.

那么象本题A项这样, 前面两个BE动词的单复数形式不同, 是不是就不应该省略呢?
