4. It has been said, "Not everything that is learned is contained in books." Compare and contrast knowledge gained from experience with knowledge gained from books. In your opinion, which source is more important? Why?
When it comes to knowledge, certainly, in my part, I prefer gaining it from books rather than experience as my inclination. In the following discussion, I would like to reason and provide evidence to support my viewpoint.
First of all, as an old saying in China goes, "there is naturally gold in book ", the proposition of reading books is generalized without reservation since the knowledge in books is as valuable as gold to some people. No other factors are more important when coming to the systematic quality of knowledge in the book. Examples of this kind are numerous. Only through books, can we learn the basic mathematic principles; Only with information in books, could we understand Newton's classical law of movement; Similarly, we are not able to think deep about the process of photosynthesis without reading books. No media can compare with the knowledge in books for systematic quality including experience. ?????
The characteristic of easy and cheap is another head and great factor I have chosen to put here, while on the other hand, learning from experience always costs too much to afford. To witness this, one need go no further to see a piece of experience where there is no turning back. For instance, my father did not work and study hard when he was young, and he does not want me to repeat his mistakes again. Since I do want to pursuit for a decent position in a large company and with high salary, I cannot afford to learn that from my own experience, either. If one can see this, he will understand it more deeply.
Superior as books are, however, they have their own demerits, too. Sometimes the theories in books do not accord with and may even be overwhelmed by true experience. One remarkable case in history is about Geoleo's famous experiment about two spheres’ dropping. It completely destroyed the view of Aristotle on that point. Consequently, the knowledge in books is not always correct, some needs further experiencing.
Nevertheless, the advantages of learning from books carry more weight than that of learning from experience, so the conclusion is obvious. In fact, not only do I prefer to gaining knowledge from books, but I also recommend read books as many as possible.
