这道题目前面有朋友问过了，怎么没高手帮忙回答一下？答案是E, 实在读不懂是什么意思。"the chemical irritant" 到底是指enzymes还是metabolize的宾语？好像都讲不通。

the chemical irritant 是to metabolize or render 的宾语

attempt to metabolize, or render harmless, the chemical irritant

当出现受词比受词补语长的时候，习惯把受词补语提前，造成一个“头轻脚重”的样子，ETS觉得这样比较好看。

这里的受词是the chemical irritant 它是metabolize和render的宾语，这里的受词补语是harmless，

其实应该是 attempt to metabolize, or render the chemical irritant harmless （造成新城代谢，使得化学刺激物无害），the chemical irritant比较长，所以把harmless提前了。

举个小例子

The accident caused the girl whose mother had been killed in the last accident at loss.

看上去很丑陋吧这个结构，所以喜欢写成

The accident caused at loss, the girl whose mother had been killed in the last accident.
