Need some advice

Dear all,

I'm a Chinese student who received a B.A in economics in one of the top liberal arts colleges in the U.S. I just got a job offer from a middle-sized (2,500 employees) life insurance company. My position will be strategic financial analyst. Bascially I'll be responsible for corporate finance analysis work and taking strategic initiatives based on findings and presented to various levels of audience, most of whom are senior management and board of directors. Prior to this, I had half year risk management experience in a top insurance company. Both companies are in the U.S. Since I have worked in insurance industry for almost one year after graduation, I feel like I'm more interested in corpFin side of the businss than more quantitative work, i.e more interaction with people (and I believe that effective communication skill is key for me to promote to C level management role). I know I will only have one year experience by June 2007. Therefore, If I want to pursue a top MBA, which programs should I apply for? My strengths are insurance industry speicific experience with finance and strategy experience. My goal is become a finance director in a global insurance company or investment banking insurance corpFin coverage. When should I submit my applications? and which weaknesses should I consider in my overall application. My undergrad GPA is 3.3. GMAT 750, 99 percentile with a balanced verbal and math score.

Thanks

you'd better work for one more year at least to apply to MBA, adcom won't expect you have good stories to tell given you have only one year experience, just my penny thoughts.

Thank you camelhill. Do you mean that I apply next year? that means I'll have three years experience by the time of matriculation. In addition, how many chances do I have for a top 5 program in your opinion?

the most concern i have is whether you have good stories to tell, and why MBA NOW.

three years by matriculation is still a fast track, believe me.

I don't wanna pursue a MBA now, but I need to make sure that my current experience in insurance industry will be useful for my future application. I know lots of people coming from banking/consulting.So from the diversity standpoint of view, will my experience actually work in favor of me?

No one can be sure of anything in the future.  Maybe there will be a lot of great people from the insurance background apply, who knows.  All you can do is give 110% to what you believe in.  MBA is only a degree, you still have to live your life.
