I agree that parents should encourage their teenage children to take a part-time job for the sake of preparation for adult life. Although some parents are afraid of their children's safety and may think that it is too early that their children leave their umbrellas, children will benefit a lot from taking a part-time job. Taking a part-time job can give teenage children numerous opportunities to mold their characters, which they can’t get by classes or extracurricular activities, including sense of responsibilities, the ability to balance life and independent thinking, and consciousness of importance of learning. What matters most is that they can know who they are and what they really want or really want to fulfill in their life.
Firstly, teenage children can mold their characters through part-time jobs. Teenage children are too young to know about life. They have dreams, but they are vulnerable. They are very talent, but they lack the sense of responsibilities and determination. They may have knowledge, but are in short of experience. So they need time and opportunities to change. A number of celebrities, such as Bill Clinton, have a miserable childhood or adolescence, because of adversity they were in. They not only worked very hard at schools, but had to do part-time job or internship when other peers were enjoying their life. However, hard work pay off, they became go-getters for their adaptability to the adult life.
Secondly, taking part-time job is an experience, by which teenage children can get knowledge of self-identity and society, and they know what their dreams are. A very reputable professor in Yale said:”Yale can give you the resource and knowledge to go get your dreams, but Yale can’t tell you what your dream is. ” Growing up means to know who you are and what you want. Self-identity and knowing your dream have great influences on your life, leading your to being more confident about the thing you do. Taking a part-time job make teenage children grow up.
In conclusion, taking a part-time job is very beneficial to teenage children’s life, not only because they can mold their characters, but also because it can solve the self-identity crisis and help teenage children to know what they want. So parents should encourage students to do so.
