0509北美阅读27题，词汇题，说marked in line 18 is colsestin mieaning to ...answer is suggested...why...?

原句是While this research did not mecessarily draw conclusions about education in museums , it marked the beginning of visitor behavior research and evaluation in museums,and it identified several visitor-related topics that could be explored using observations.

为什么是选SUGGEST呢？我觉得应该是represented.请高手指点。。。

mark主要的意思有show clearly，indicate,symbol，好像suggest的意味不多，倒是represent意思比较符合。还有什么其他选项？

为什么是选SUGGEST呢？我觉得应该是represented.请高手指点。。。

我觉得本意上可能有represent的意思，但是看看前后文，前一句说 draw conclusions, 后一句说 identified, 所以我想文章原本想说的意思是，就算这个调查研究没有对education in museums下一个结论，但是它有涉及到the beginning of ... ，并且他也明确了.......。所以suggest比较接近？？因为suggest比较有从调查整体能够理解出，而不是调查直接说明了，所以比represent好一些？

又或者represent在就是代表的意思，但是不能在这里用。因为根本没有这样的用法，也就是说represent的表明，代表的意思不可以用在这样的情况下。因为每一个动词要跟相对应的主语，也许能用represent的主语不是样子的。（这个的可能性比较大）
