“Education has become the main provider of individual opportunity in our society. Just as property and money once were the keys to success, education has now become the element that most ensures success in life.”
In your opinion, how accurate is the view expressed above? Explain, using reasons and examples based on your own experience, observations, or reading.
This statement concerns about whether education has replaced property and money to be the main provider of opportunity in the society. As far as I am concerned, nowadays, as education can bring one to a higher base in life and as more and more people can afford it, it is reasonable to assert that it has become the fundamental key that most ensures the success now. 66
In the first place, better education can supply people broader backgrounds, which is needed in order to be successful. On the one hand, it is clear that if one person has a higher and broader education background than others, he/ she will possibly has a long-term vision about the career. Moreover, a good plan of future is a requirement of success to some extent. Thus, this person is more likely to be successful. On the other hand, a good education background will endow a person the ability to get used to changes better than others, because this person can handle various situations with enough knowledge form education. Therefore, from these two points of views, it is right to suggest that education is the key factor to ensure success. 128
On the other hand, today education is not a privilege of the wealthy people, almost all people who wants to accept it can afford it, even the country is forcing children to have education at least for a fixed period of time. Thus, contrary to the past days, the time in which property and money are elemental to success because they decide whether a person can get education. Nowadays, education becomes more egalitarian today, and this situation opens the door of success to almost every people. Consequently, education takes the place of property and money to be vital to success. 100
Last but not the least, admittedly, there are some person who do not get enough education but still achieve success. For example, Bill Gates, who left Harvard when he was a sophomore, becomes the most wealth man in the world. However, this is only a specific case, and his success can not represent the general situation. To most people, education is the directive way to success.
In conclusion, as I discussed above, first, education can broaden a person’s sight, and with a wider knowledge, this person can be more likely to discover more opportunities and to do well in the way to success; in addition, education is more affordable now and property and money are no longer obstacles to education. Therefore, it is sagacious to agree with the viewpoint that education is the element now to ensure one’s success in the society. 76 |
