February 18, 2020: New English proficiency testing option for applicants living in China
Due to the cancellation of TOEFL, IELTS, and PTE tests in mainland China, Johns Hopkins Carey Business School has identified an alternative English proficiency assessment called the “J-Check test,” which can be taken anywhere you have access to a PC desktop or laptop computer with an internet connection, webcam, and microphone. While we prefer the TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE, we will accept the J-Check test as an alternative for Round 3 applicants living in China who have been affected by test cancellations. If you already have TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE test results please submit those and do not take the J-check test. Our preferred minimum score on the J-Check test is 4.5 out of 6.0.

Follow the instructions below to complete the J-Check test.

Go to https://www.jchecktest.com/johns-hopkins-university/
Purchase a J-Check test ID and password. The fee is $99 and you will have your test ID and password e-mailed to you within 48 hours.
Once you have your ID and password you will log-in and have the opportunity to take a free practice test before proceeding to the official J-Check test. The test must be taken on a PC desktop or laptop computer with internet access, a microphone and an activated webcam. It cannot be taken on a MAC computer or on a tablet or smartphone. Technical requirements are provided on the J-Check website: https://www.jchecktest.com/technical-requirements/.
You will receive a copy of your results by e-mail and official test results are sent to Johns Hopkins University within 24-48 hours. It may take an additional business day for the score to show as received on your application checklist.

February 11, 2020: Special note to applicants living in China
The Admissions office at Johns Hopkins Carey Business School is aware of test cancellations, university closures, and other interruptions to day-to-day life in mainland China due to 2019 coronavirus. We understand that students in China may have trouble accessing transcripts, completing testing, or preparing other application materials as a result.

If you are in China and wish to submit an application to a full-time MS program at JHU Carey, please submit as much as you can by our April 1 round 3 deadline. We understand your application may be incomplete when you submit. We anticipate most issues will be with testing due to cancelled GMAT, GRE, TOEFL and IELTS exams and with receiving course-by-course evaluations due to delays at CHESICC.

For any section where you are missing materials, please upload a statement explaining your situation. If you have had a test cancelled, we encourage you to register for the next available test date and update us if future dates are cancelled. You should order your course-by-course evaluation and include the reference number in your application. We understand your actual evaluation might take longer than normal to be completed and, for that reason, you should order as soon as possible.

We anticipate being able to accept supporting documents for round 3 applicants living in China through the end of April as long as your initial application was submitted by April 1. We will be as flexible as possible.

Johns Hopkins University and the Carey Business School continue to monitor the situation, and we will send you updates as we have them.

Additional questions or application updates should be directed to the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School Admissions office at carey.admissions@jhu.edu.
