It is a controversial issue whether a business should hold responsibility for providing customers with complete information about its products or services. People with different backgrounds and experience have various perspectives about this issue. Some people contend that a business should be responsible to provide the evidence. However, other people assert that customer should have the responsibility to gather the information about the products or services they may want to buy. As far as I am concerned, customer rather than the business should take the responsibility to obtain the information. The reasons for my view can be illustrated as follows.
First, we live in a market with fierce competition. If the business provides any information the customers inquire, it is very easy that the information will soon be revealed to its competitors via various channels. For example, we always can find that McDonald and KFC will make advertisement and prompt their products at the same time. The case is also applicable to Proter&Gamble and Unilever. Exploring into the causes behind it, we can easily find that it is because they have to provide the sufficient information the customers want to know and have to reveal themselves to the competitors. There is no problem for the operation of these giant enterprises, but threat will be posed if the situation occurs between some smaller competitors.
Second, it is not efficient for the business to provide information to the customers. Each customer has his or her own favorites. Take furniture for example, some people focus on the color, some people concentrate on the materials while others pay more attention to the originality of the producer. It is impossible and inefficient for a business to provide the information that each customer wants to obtain. Only the customers themselves know what they need and they can search for the useful information to make a comparison and to serve their own tastes.
Admittedly, it is important for a business to communicate with their customers regularly and provide the information at the request of their customers. They also can obtain some useful feedbacks from customers in order to provide better service to secure the position in the heart of old customers and attract many new clients.
In summary, I back up that customers themselves should have the responsibility of gathering information about the products or services they may want to buy. It is both efficient to the customers and business so that the business will have more time to improve the quality of its products to provide more satisfactory products to the market.
