又把这道题目贴出来是因为，查了很多以前的解答，觉得和OG上的解答相差甚远。

88. The lonious Monk, who was a jazz pianist and composer, produced a body of work both rooted in the stride-piano tradition of Willie (The Lion) Smith and Duke Ellington, yet in many ways he stood apart from the mainstream jazz repertory.

The work he produced was rooted in the mainstream (stride piano) jazz tradition, yet at the same time, he deviated from this tradition. Q1 The use of a relative clause (who was a jazz pianist …) or an appositive (the jazz pianist …) introduces unnecessary wordiness and grammatical complexity. Since only one point is being made about Monk’s body of work, the appearance of the word both in the clause presenting the claim about Monk’s work is deceptive as well as grammatically incorrect.

一般排除过程是这样的：
both使用错误，存在不平行且容易误导读者（其实nly one point is being made about Monk’s body of work）排除ABE，
C句子不完整，
答案即为 D
可是OG 不是这么排除的，求NN解答~~！！！！！！！

我觉得你的思路对的，both那里是很明显的错误，可以直接排除....

至于你的问题，我觉得A里面"comma+who was ..."确实wordy & non-idiomatic
B的表达不对，"the"应该改成"a"
我google找的例句：
Alexander Solzhenitsyn, a Nobel laureate, died of heart failure last month.
注意这里的冠词是a不是the，因为这里不是某个特定的position (e.g. the CEO of Google)。此题同理，pianist/composer都是profession，所以不能用the.

baby姐，你解释的A中的wordy与non-idomatic我理解，但是1.OG解释中提到的confusion是怎么说啊？？这个确实不理解啊？
另外我看到PREP08中对于这个题目中总结的同位语表示职业的知识点中，全部都是把职业放在人名的前面，包括你给出的Ron的例子也是，2.如果是像这个题目中一样把职业描述放在人名后面有什么特殊要求吗？
我个人的想法是如果把对一个人的职位职业描述放在人名后面的话，一方面是作同位语，对这个人的职业属性进行解释和说明；另一方面是作为非限定性修饰，以插入语的形式放在人名之后，所以这个时候，只要是放在人名之后的都应该在这个职位前后使用逗号隔开；对于此种情况下的冠词，如果是一个特殊的职位，五一无二的职位（意思就是世界上这个职位或描述是专门授予这个人的）的话，就应该使用定冠词the；如果是一个一般性职位或描述，则应当使用不定冠词a/an。
因为后来自己针对这个问题查了帖子，但是都没有提到把描述放在人名之后的情况，所以自己思考了一下这个问题，上面是自己的观点，请大家指正啊。

后来自己又看了其他帖子，发现自己上面总结的有一点不完全的就是使用the的时候不一定非是要说这个职位称号特制这个人，另一种使用the的情况是在整个语义环境下这个人已经出现在了前面的介绍中，后面需要再次说明这个人的时候这种情况下也可以使用the+职位和称号。

回楼上，C的错误是句子结构问题，语法错误。
Choice C is saying
Jazz pianist and composer X, who bla bla, yet he stood ....
看出来了吧？
