楼主请看句子主干：None of the attempts...explains why most people (后面是修饰这个people的内容) do not commit crimes and, conversely, why so many of those （not so exposed 其实完整的应该是 exposed to the alleged causes）do (这个do 指 do commit crimes).

这个题就是考平行对称。

从前半个分句可以看出to the alleged causes的成分：
“most of the people exposed to the alleged causes ”= most of the people who are exposed to the alleged causes

定于从句中，who是主语，而exposed to the alleged causes是定于从句中的主语补足语。下半个句子以those代替了people，也就是下半个句子的主语已经出现了，于是原句就用so代替了这个主语补足语。

而commit在上半句以why引导的宾语从句中是谓语的作用，在下半句中仍然是以why引导的宾语从句中做谓语。只是前面出现过了，所以原句就用do来代替了。
