It's a rumor. I met several first-year students who are directly from Mainland China. If those deferrals who couldn’t acquire their visa on time are included, there're even more. Frankly, I met two first-year students who graduated from Tsinghua and 42% of MIT Sloan students are from engineering background, excluding those with a computer science major. In any class, there're around 30 or more Mandarin-speaking students, including ABC's, greencard-holders, visa-holders who got degrees or ever worked in the United States, and those directly from Taiwan, Hong Kong and Mainland China. BTW, there're around 400 Chinese students now studying at MIT.
I found a substantial number of HR guys are full of "insightful evaluation ideas", whatever in US or in China. I just wonder how come these guys can single out those real It seems that they have a crystal ball. Otherwise, they themselves would command a much higher salary on the marketplace as most MBA grads do. Fortunately, many companies like IBM rarely let HR guys do real professional interviews while recruiting employees, especially for those candidates with graduate degrees. Most of HR guys in these companies are only doing paper works like collecing candidates' data via schools' recruting events, visa or greencard filings for immigrants, or issuing paper job offers to new-hires after the managers have informed them of the hirings.
