这句为何不可以是gain后+动名词+不定式宾语呢？即b选项。

语法大全的答案是B，改small为little，但我的笔记里面怎么写着是A，要把as sweeteners 改为In sweeteners啊，理由写的是：在as句型后的sth 应和there be + sth 的sth保持一致。晕！

第一题 gain是及物动词，直接带宾语。这里increasing不是动名词，是形容词，不能直接作宾语。至于后面再加不定式作宾语，这种用法很少见，如果那样，前面的第一个宾语increasing就应该是个具体名词，后面接不定式表结果或目的。

第二题大全的答案很好理解，因为difference是抽象概念，通常都用little表示。quantities也可以有单数或复数用法，如果这里复数用法正确，它所表达的是后面vitamins,minerals几种物质的各有一个抽象的量，也可以理解。

笔记里说as sweeteners，后面名词应该一致，意思是说as... 是从句，只有在主句与从句主语完全一致且从句谓语为BE动词时，从句才能省略主语和谓语。所以改in sweeteners把从句变成介词短语作状语，避开主从句的矛盾。但主句是个there be的倒装句，是否适用这条规则很难说，我的感觉是托福里很少会出现这样偏的考法，尤其在其他各项有争议的情况下。可以看看其他人的意见。
