是一道prep08和OG12上都有的题目，碰到两次，觉得没有完全理解透彻，麻烦大家指教~~
Last week local shrimpers held a news conference to take some credit for the resurgence of the rare Kemp's ridley turtle, saying that their compliance with laws requiring that turtle-excluder devices be on shrimp nets protect adult sea turtles.

A. requiring that turtle-excluder devices be on shrimp nets protect

B. requiring turtle-excluder devices on shrimp nets is protecting

C. that require turtle-excluder devices on shrimp nets protect

D. to require turtle-excluder devices on shrimp nets are protecting (B)

E. to require turtle-excluder devices on shrimp nets is protecting

我的疑问点在C（当然我知道protect主谓不一致了），到底用that require turtle-excluder devices on shrimp nets这个定语从句修饰laws 可不可以，鉴于在这里requiring也是做分词定语修饰laws的，感觉它们作用一样。。。可是语法笔记说就是要在法律法规后面用ing，，，额···LZ表示有点难接受的说···有木有人可以帮我解答一下儿呐~~THX!!

ing偏向于长期。定从偏向于一次。不过我觉得法律加ing记住就够了额。。。为什么纠结？

不能理解为法律法规后面就是Ing 这是形式法律法规后面是目的就是todo 是法律法规的内容就是Ing 我是这么理解的
RON 大神还是哪一个外国的专家讲过的

说一下我的看法不对咱们再商量哈！

其实LS看法在法律后边不能接从句的观点上是一致的，但是我个人是对此持怀疑态度的。
例1；We asked our teen staff if they agreed with laws that requires teens to be off the streets by a certain time，
例2；Research Supports Laws That Require Bicyclists to Wear Helmets （政府网站）

回到你的题目上来，我刚查了一下这道题OG对C的解释；The relative clause that require introduces unnecessary wordiness; the plural verb protect does not agree with the singular subject compliance.
我猜想这就是很多人认为law后接ving的一个根据，但是必须指出我认为大家是过度引申了OG的解释，从这句话我们只能推论出在这个句子里可能requring 更加的简洁，或者比that从句更恰当，但这只是在这个句子里，换个句子有可能requring 就会有岐义，只能用that requres .

我总是不太喜欢OG因为它的解释含含糊糊，什么叫wordy? 这是不是一个语法错误?去掉最优项以后它可不可以作为一个正确的选项？当然其实问题并不在于人家怎么解释，问题在于我们怎么看待人家的解释

这两道题都是关于分词和从句区别的，提供给楼主参考，

lz表示非常同意你的说法，总是不太喜欢wordy ,awkward的解释，尤其是这种点到即止的说明。从来都没有OG的官方说法说过它们后面只能加ing的，当然我们也不能否认前辈们通过多年经验的对比总结出的有益结论。
针对你的思路，我也觉得或许我们不应该把结论仍然归结到laws或者agreement或者directive后面能加什么不能加什么上面去，而是通过这个明白ing和定语从句作为noun的修饰语时各自的特点。LS给出的两个require的例句好像都不是GMAC的，可能会对考试形成思想上的误区，而两个关于分词和定语从句的例题，我在非正确选项里面也看到了其他的split。
所以，到底选项的排除只是因为其他的split，还是也会考虑用ing和定从修饰会表达的不同呢？

借楼主这个贴子跟楼主探讨一个根本性的问题-----为什么有那么多人认为gmat的语法和普通语法不同？
我的核心观点；大家之所以有这样的认识还是没有看清一个错误选项的真正错误在那里而武断的把OG的解释无限的放大，就像上边这一题OG的解释只是针对一道题，但是大家把它上升不能……

我坚持认为一个正确的句子就是正确的句子，不存在什么gmat的正确句子。我从来没有发现过任何在gmat外是正确的句子而在gmat中是错误的，如果有一定有别的明显错误。
就像like as区别，尽管llie作为连词的用法有争议，但是gmat绝不会把这一点当成考点。
these指代整句连Ron看来都没有办理理解，但是这在普通用法中是正确的gmat中也理所当然的是正确的。
there are/is A and B 说什么there be 就近一致是在普通语法，gmat如何如何
having done的问题我跟版主也讨论过，虽然在所有语法中都认为多作状语，但是其中一个版主告诉我那都不算数having done在gmat当中被认为是定语！！我想知道这些都是怎么得出来的，
wether 和if 还见过有人说gmat中不能用if引导宾语从句，但是我看了他举的例题以后发现在这只不过是初中学过的wether和if用法区别很常见的一种
which指代整句也是其中一个，并不是在gmat中which就不能指代整句，还是那句话在gmat外which的正确用法在gmat中照样是正确的用法，gmat中错误普通语法也是错误。

凡此种种我都跟不同的人讨论过，他们无一例外的认为是从OG的解释里看到的，但是细细一追问都是把gmat中的错误像这道题一样进行了放大，一厢情愿的认为gmat会把所有……当成错误。我觉得这是很值得商榷的。
对应这种问法，我想反问一句，大家见过没有其它错误只有因为law后边是定语从句而至致的错误吗？这应该是一体两面的事情，但是为什么要厚此薄彼呢、

正在纠结这个that从句与ing ，赞一个赞同，很多所谓的绝对定理条条框框最终还是要到每一个题当中不同的语意。这只有在每一题中去体会总结，最终自己去发现其中的规律，而不是用一个定的规则去解题！
