个人理解：这里是 Miiller's career began as a Sanskrit scholar。。。。 in an unpromising apprenticeship。 begin in 不是词组。 begin with sth, such as: "begin with a story."这里不能替换。

用as更合适

解释不清楚，但是觉得with不好，with有伴随的感觉

例如dansy说的begin with a story

on the dictionary, in has a meaning:

during a period of time,

apprenticeship has a meaning:

the period of time in which you are an apprentice

so in an unpromising apprenticeship

is much better than with

Spining在句首,其逻辑主语应该是Friedrich Muller.

而答案是Friedrich Muller's career,难道是career 在Spanning more than fifty years?

请问这句话应该怎么理解? 我两次都做错了: (
