本人国内2008年211学校毕业（生物），全奖去美国，2012年美国100名学校PhD 博士毕业（化学），工作了3年，美国工作一年，中国工作2年，（共3年工作经验），GPA一直３.５＋。从research associate 做到 chief project scientist, 发过２０篇SCI的文章，１０篇一作，对材料行业有一定的了解。目前国内几个大学给了ｏｆｆｅｒ，但对科研热情已经失去,尤其是国内. 想去念个MBA，系统training 一下，顺便把我一些创业idea和计划书带过去。想问一下，我这样的背景如果去做申请，有什么优势，有什么劣势，谢谢。

T应该不用考了吧，G的话今天刚报了名准备10月底去考。

Thanks for reaching out, and happy to help! And as a business guy, I can say that I completely understand why you want to get away from research and into the exciting world of business! Now, the question is, how can you get into a good MBA program? It's gonna be tough, dude, I'll be honest. Considering you already have a masters and a PhD, and no work experience, you've got some challenges. First and foremost, the schools are going to want to know why you need another degree, when you've already got the Masters and PhD. The last thing you want is for them to think of you as a degree collector! So you are going to need VERY clear and specific career goals: what you want to do, the company where you want to do it, the title you want to have. Yes, that specific. The reason for that is that will allow you to make the argument that you NEED this degree to get there. You will have to make a strong case that says "This is what I want to do, specifically. My PhD got me so far, but now I need an MBA for THESE reasons in order to reach my goals." Again, it's not easy, but if you play your cards right (and the rest of your profile is STRONG), it IS possible.

The other challenge you'll have to overcome is your limited work experience. You've been published, which is great, but we need to find a way to connect what you're doing now to... BUSINESS. Do you have any leadership experience you can speak to? Or any formal experience besides research? That's where we're going to need to start to dig, so we can make that connection for the adcom from your current experience into the business world.

You've got some challenges ahead of you, and I'd really need to know more to come up with a specific plan for your apps, but if we can connect all of those things and tell a SMART story for the adcom, good things can happen.

Hi JonFrank, many thanks. There is something I need to clarify:

1). I do have work experience for 3 years. I got my Ph.D in early 2012, then joined in a research institute to take contract R&D for two chemical industrial Co. As a team leader, I accomplished all the product R&D. The new inventories brought those two chemical industrial Co. millions $. After taking the position as “ Chief Scientist" for 1 year, I got a chance to join in a private company in China to help them update products, same story again, products updated and the boss get big money. Therefore, I am thinking about to launch my own biz.

(2) My research area is not "pure science", but " clean tech" which is in a more practical engineering approach. I consider the tech skill from my PhD and previous work experience as "hardcore". What I want to get from MBA is the "soft skill" which will delivery my goal in a right approaches. I call it as "Balance between technology and humanity".

(3) I know exactly what I want, to build my own biz. Never think about just to collect a MBA degree. The degree is the outcome of study and training, but what I care most the process which can compromise my shortage on biz like soft skill. Degrees never hamper someone to chase their dreams. At least, it tells people this guy got systematic training on specific area.
