Is that always true that the government officials should always follow and relay on their own judgment, rather than the will form the people that they server? In response to this issue, we need analyze this assertion comprehensively and systematically. The assertion does have some merits which I agree with insofar as that the government should never take any order from any people without questioning. While, after a close consideration, I cannot entirely agree with this assertion as it overlook the importance of the will form the people they serve.
First and foremost, the government officials are also come from the people and selected by the rest. They have the responsibility to serve people once they take the position. Take the president election for example; he or she will always make some promise during the election campaign. And they may have great chance to take the position they desire once their promise just meet the people's will. After he or she wins the election, they should be responsible for what they said. Otherwise they are going to lose their reputation and not going to get a second chance. What's more, they are selected to represent the will of the rest. Simply speaking, it's part of their job to carry out the will of the people who they serve. He is not required, in some extend, forbidden to work just following his own opinion and judgment. Like old people always say,two heads are better than one.
In the second place, any government officials who fail to represent the will of the people they server can hardy keep the stable and developing of the society and country. It's admitted that normally the government officials are good at balance the interest from different social group. If they failed at this, the people who have litter political wisdom have to argue for their benefit by themselves. Unfortunately, this process is always coming with violence. For example, during last two year, the revolution has rise in several mid-east countries like Egypt and Syria and so on which cause hundreds of people death and millions lost. The main reason is their local government officials failed to satisfy the people's demand to decrease the corruption and improve the economical situation and provide more working opportunity. From the case, we can tell that sometimes the officials’ failure could even cause huge consequence, like the collapse of the whole government. Then, even the new officials are selected; the people there will still pay for the reconstruction and suffer the pain caused by the revolution. It's the situation we wish to avoid forever.
Last and the most important, the government officials should always avoid unquestioningly carrying out the will form the people. It's normal that the people with different background may have different will. Some of them may even contrast to the others. What the officials should do is listen to the different voice form the people and carry out the will which could benefit the most people and balance the interest frmo different groups.
Base on the analysis above, it's not an easy job for government officials to do. To make the people they server satisfied, they should always be open to listen to their opinion and combine with the existing situation and his or her own experience to reach a better result. |
