I guess you should choose another software. Although I have not taken data mining classes, and I do not know what specific data dealing techniques you want to have, my suggestions are: 1) Find out if Excel is the proper tool, think about SAS or STATA. 2) If you do need to use Excel, then Google the commends for that.
find a textbook and follow it step by step i recommend one basic book: go excel, GO! with Microsoft Excel 2010 Introductory on amazon after you grasp the basic knowldge, you can study the applicaiton of VBA in excel. tons of textbooks in this field. remember, even though excel/word/... application is easy, you still need to put time and effort to really grasp it, just like taking a normal course
