From the passage, the author held the point that Omega University should terminate the student evaluation professors as soon as possible. In the passage, the writer argued that the students’ grade in Omega University has increased since the institution of the student evaluation professor. He believed that this phenomenon happened because the professors were willing to get a good evaluation. Then the grades of the students seem not to be of value. What’s more, the graduates of Omega University have not been as successful at getting jobs as those from nearby Alpha University. This may be due to the inaccurate grades of the students.
What the writer said about the phenomenon seems logical at the first glance, however, when we analyze the points that the author argued, they may not be logical. Firstly, the grades of the students in Omega University have risen during these years, and the writer thought this phenomenon happened because of the establishment of the student evaluation professors. This may be true, but the fact may be due to the hard work of students. The university’s atmosphere of studying may has been improved since these years, and students become more and more diligent, which help them to get a great score in the test. And the professors in the university may be not willing to please the students in order to get a good evaluation.
Despite the argument that the grades of students in Omega University is not accurate enough, the writer’s point that the students’ poor employment is due to the students evaluation professors may be not true. The poor employment situation in the area may be due to a lot of perimeters, and the growing number of students in this area will cause the competition among graduates, which cause the poor employment. What’s more, the best subjects in Omega University may be needless in this area, which will cause the poor employment.
Furthermore, the better employment situation of students graduating from Alpha University can not be of any use to analyze this situation. Because the two areas must be different in many perimeters, such as the population, hot subjects, dimension of the town, and so on. For example, the students in Omega University are good at chemistry, but the town does not have relevant companies. However, the students in Alpha University do well in physics, which are needed in this area. So different perimeters should be take into consideration to analyze the phenomenon.
From the arguments above, we could find some flaws in the writer’s consideration, and if he would like to make himself more persuasive, he should take more details into the analysis, and avoid making assumptions which seems not logical.
