27. In any field of inquiry, the beginner is more likely than the expert to make important contributions.
Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the statement and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider ways in which the statement might or might not hold true and explain how these considerations shape your position.
Can the novice make extraordinary contributions more possibly than the experienced? The speaker claims so, for the reason that free from the established constraint, the beginners are more likely to make a breakthrough in field of study. I agree insofar as that experience is the essential treasure in the research. At the same time, the imagination could not be ignored based on the notion that imagination is the resource of creation.
Admittedly, it is the experience that leads us to draw skepticism on phenomenon, put forward hypothesis as well as execute the examination on it. In fact, only after we have acquired certain level of knowledge, are we able to discover the abnormal data and suppose the plausible explanation, all of which is the core of progress. Experience is the foundation and touchstone of imagination, while imagination without experience is like tree without roots, meaning that without experience, imagination is bound to fall into fallacy and fancy. Utopian socialism is a case in point to illustrate this opinion. If utopian scholars had viewed this issue from the realistic aspect and used their formal experience, they would not have end up with total failure. In a word, we have no reasons to underrate the role experience plays in the research.
The essential significance of experience, nevertheless, indicates the blind idolization towards authority. After all, when combined with imagination skepticism upon authority in some fields-such as scientific disciplines- will also promote human society to thrive. Take the emergence of modern physics for example. Without Einstein’s suspicious attitude to the incompletion of classical physics and without his free imagination in particle world, how could we enjoy the benefits of relativity? Necessary through the imagination could Einstein who was just a novice in physics make a milestone in the history of physics. Therefore, it is true that imagination is a valuable asset, sometimes even more valuable than experience.
Ultimately, but not least, lacking experience could enable people to imagine freely without restraints of established habits and attitudes. No one could deny the fact that inventions or discoveries which could break the founded tradition are more appealing to people since human beings are born with nature to exceed the limitation. For this matter, beginner who is lack of established thinking pattern is more encouraged by the public to contemplate issue in a totally new respective. An apt instance in the point is the idea of outer space exploration. When the idea was first put forward, it was encountered by a myriad of praise, as it refers to a field we were not familiar with that time. Hence, beginners are more likely to break the boundary to discover new field.
To sum up, a proper combination of imagination and experience is indispensable to success. When imagination is combined with experience, the improvement to human society can be immense. The optimal approach is to view the beginner as possibly as the specialists to make vital devotions in the fields of inquiry.
