问一道OG上的语法。OG－12－52

(D) Long before it was fashionable to be anexpatriate, Josephine Baker made Parisher home,

(E) Long before it was fashionable being anexpatriate, Paris was home to Josephine Baker,

答案是D。
可是我记得代词只有在前面有指代了，才可以出现。 Long before it was fashionable to be an expatriate, Josephine Baker made Paris her home,中的it在之前没有指代啊？！

这样是不是说明代词在后方指代时也能用啊？

it不需要有指代

it是形式主语

例：it is good to be an artist

LZ误解了，所说的代词指代前面是说在同一句话里面，在这里D选项里Long before it was fashionable to be an expatriate是一个时间状语，它的位置比较灵活，可以放在主句Josephine Baker made Paris her home之后的。这里的it就是指Pairs。
常见的话在Ving，S+V+O的句型里，Ving的modifier里面的代词也是向后指代的呀~

那你翻译一下这个句子看看，我觉得it是形式主语的说法，不然就是Pairs to be an expatriate了。翻译不通啊

不好意思，这里确实是形式主语，expatriate这里是指的是人，不是地方。
