Those schools close to Silycon Valley shall definitely be on your list....Also schools like MIT, UT Austin, CMU are very strong in this field...

It doesn't matter what your background is. Once you decide to pursue MBA, the ranking and reputation is everything. The topper the better!

As a programmer and mba student, I guess that you're trying to find a joint point of technology and business. But I think it's hard to achieve because such positions are really rare. Most technical management positions need hand-on experiences and MBA is not a big plus to compete for them. In my understanding, you have these choices after mba:

1. Work in financial companies as programer in USA.

2. Work as technical manager or IT related marketing manager in China.

3. Something that is purely IT or totally unrelated to IT.

You also have choices other than mba, such as MIT technical management, supply-chain management or Princeton financial engeering, and so on.

Technical management is nothing. A good technical leader is normally a person who enjoys simple life and also can maintain long-lasting interest in a particular field. Once you have idea to take gmat and apply school, it means 90% you're not suitable to be a technical person. In addition, employer or recruiter never cares it, so this kind of diploma is nothing in USA. But being nothing make it easier to be admitted. If you want to develop your career in China, you can try MIT because gmat700 is almost enough and the name of MIT definitely means something.

Financial engineering is a better option than tech management because you can really learn some technologies, which is critical to find a job in USA. It's even better than mba if you want to live in USA but not very useful in China. This major doesn't require that you have financial background. However when you apply a top school and face fierce competition from many other good candidates, a related background will be a big plus. But if you come from IT or Statistics fields, maybe MBA is better because you will be more flexible in future career development.

Thanks a lot 750!

I don't think I can doing back as a programmer after I really get an MBA. I like doing management rather than purely programming, that's why I am applying MBA.

What I am going to be in after studying is a kind of management position, maybe marketing department is a good place to doing somethings.

But if I will staying at North America, what about the choices in your opinion?

Btw, are you in China or America?

Actually I am really appreciate your kindly reply.
