正确答案是D。可是，文中不是说了the thickness of ancient tree rings是climatological data吗？这个就算事实，不算assumption了吧？

哈哈，你想太多了~assumption题要找个直接的，不能绕太远
用tree-ring thickness去猜solar periodicity和terrestrial climate的关系，那就是假设thickness能作为climate指标
climatological data是气候资料，有关而已，未必就能反映climate的变化嘛
B C E 明显不对嘛，你是不是选了A？cycle要保持不变，文中哪里提到啦？只说要找它们的关系，不能自己乱想~

HOWEVER后面说没有做成什么，说明两者之间是有关系的
