Some people hold the opinion that youngpeople today are more independent than the ones in the past that they seldomrely on their parents when they are in dilemma. From my perspective, most youngpeople nowadays are likely to make their own choices when they are facingproblems in their own lives. Several factors are contributed to the phenomenon. Firstly, the society provides betterinformation sources so that young people are able to make wiser and betterdecisions than they did in the past. With the abundant knowledge, they can tellwhat is good for them and how to obtain what they want without much help fromtheir parents. For example, years ago, when young people choose theuniversities, they made their decisions mainly based on their parents'opinions. But now, they will browse thewebsite of the universities, have a visit at the campus and talk to someone whohas been studying there. Young people can accomplish these all by themselves. Secondly, young people nowadays are usuallythe only child in a family. It is not difficult to imagine that the parentswill pour all their love and energy to foster their children. The children aremore likely to make their own choices in varies situation, such as choosing therestaurant to dine in, selecting the outfit to put on and so on. The parentsare happy to see their children making their own choices and being satisfied. Last but least, the social environment hasbeen advocating the importance of making one's own choices and beingresponsible for oneself. We can find slogans saying Be Independent and BeResponsible on campus and other places. Young people today are educated to beindependent since they were children. Teachers will demand students to work onthe homework by themselves. Parents will demand their sons and daughters toclean their own room. Eventually, young people are more independent and tend tomake their own decisions. Even if young people are more independenton making choices than they were in the past, it does not mean that they shouldtake their parents' advice no more. Parents' suggestions are often practicaland beneficial to young people because parents are more experienced and moresophisticated than young people. I think when young people are makingdecisions, it is better to combine parents' advice and information from othersources to the optimal choice.
