最近Admission office转过来一些2012 candidate的咨询邮件。其中一些问题很多candidate都有问道觉得有必要和大家分享一下。这里列出一个澳门大学的CANDIDATE邮件和我的答复,希望能给大家一些启发。
Dear xxxx, Thanks for reading this email. I’m a 2011 graduate student from University of Macau and a friend of Prof. Gift. As introduced by him, I know you are an outstanding and potential student that can throw light on many questions. May I have some discussion with you regarding to issues in pursuing the further education? At the point of choosing where to go, I feel I really need some feedback from current student about their life and work:
1. Why do you choose Pepperdine and what are other choices you have at that time, if any?
Choice: NYU, Maryland, Bently, Pepperdine. Why: I love Southern California and people over there. Pepperdine has very nice Alumi and career network. Some of my friends were their students back then. They all had awesome experience in Pepperdine.
2. How helpful is the career service in Pepperdine University and the network to you? It depends actually. Some of the career officers are always ready to help; some of the others are busy usually, and you r the one that need to push them. But mostly I should say that they are nice and helpful.
3. May I have an example of a typical good business student in Pepperdine, such as background, career track, etc?
There are many examples. Here I am attaching this link and you can check their profile here.

4. If I’m choosing between Pepperdine University (Master of Science in Finance) and University of Texas at Dallas (MS-MBA joint program), what’s your suggestions would be given the following education expectation, career goal and budget? (1) I want to get into a top 20 school for MBA (or transfer to a better Master) (2) I wish to have some work experience in U.S. for 3-5 years and move back to China in the long run. (3) My family financially supports me with a budget of $150,000 for further education. The Pepperdine cost approximate $90,000 for 1 year program, and the UTD cost me around $40,000(with 50% scholarship) for 1.5 year program.
Many potential students ask me sort of same questions recently. I has same problem as you back that time. ; ) My idea is if your family are economically supportive, then you could just follow your guts. I choose pepperdine right I get its offer. I dont care much about Ranking. Here in America. If you are not in that top 20 general ranking ( not MBA ranking), it actually doesnt make that difference. But it does depend on your own preference. Every big decision in your life, you are the only one that make choice and take the responsibility, rihgt? You are the only one that knows yourself best and know which one you like more. I could just tell you what Pepperdine life is like, and you can compare what the UTD life is like, then you could make your own decision based on which one you are more fittable or more preferable. Pepperdine life is more like MBA life, coz you are mixed with MBA students. Oceanview, serfing, beach, life is kinda casual. Lots of party, mixer, networking events. Many domestic friends, but you need to reach out actively. Some of the current Chinese students are kinda socially awkward and stick to their own cultural peer group, and then had few interaction with the domestic. So it all depends on you and your attitude.
5. What are the top 3 things (or more) I should do before entering the Master in the summer vacation?
Networking skills.
Have some goals for this one year. Figure out what you want to achieve.
Package well.
... just some ideas and thoughts. It depends actually ;)
Ola, I guess that's it. Hope this sort helps, and you are always welcome to reach me by Gtalk......
Viva xxxx
