In 1914 a total of 469,000 cars and trucks were produced in the United States
, but in 1929 almost twice the numbers of trucks alone came off the assembly lines.

A. the numbers of trucks alone

B. that number of trucks alone

C. the number of trucks by themselves

D. as many trucks themselves
E. as many trucks by themselves

B is correct. 此题我完全是一头雾水。。。alone和themselves的区别在此处我完全无法区分，另外我想问下as many trucks这样的用法是不是必然错呢？作为as many trucks (as in 1914)的省略写法是否可以呢？
问题太多，有人能完整地帮我解释下这道题么？万分感谢！

这个句子的意思是“仅仅”卡车就已经两倍量的生产了，
themselves反身代词是对trucks的同位语，表示强调是trucks而已，我们往往可以看作没有反身代词，就如同同位语往往与句子主成份无关一样，所以用alone比用themselves语义上更加强烈。但这不能成为第一位的筛选原则。effectiveness性错误.

你说对了，是可以省略成as many trucks的.
另外A,C的排除还可以用the number的指代不清来排除，想必这点你明白。
