我08年在美国办了个social security number，半年后回国继续上学，以为以后去美国会有个新的SSN，于是既没记住号码也没保存SSN card……下面是官方的邮件解答：

Thank you for contacting the Social Security Administration.

We do not provide Social Security numbers (SSN’s) through Internet e-mail or over the telephone.Furthermore, they are not available for viewing online.

Increases in identity theft and fraudulent misrepresentation in connection with easy access to detailed personal information, such as birth certificates, have underscored the necessity to ensure that identification requirements are tightly controlled, especially for contacts over the telephone.

We understand that this may be a hardship for some.However, the Social Security Administration (SSA) is concerned about privacy and security issues and believes it is important to maintain tight identification practices.

If you do not have your SSN and it cannot be obtained by searching documents in your possession such as old tax records, with appropriate identification you may obtain the SSN by visiting your local Social Security office.
