A powerful business leader has far more opportunity to influence the course of a community or a nation than does any government official.
Who is more likely to exert profound influence on the course of a nation? In his argument, the author asserts that it is the powerful business leader who would have more opportunity. However, there are many people who hold opposing views. To them, the government officials have developed unshakable figures. It is no wonder that seemingly simple and straight question could arouse such fierce debate through society. As a matter of fact, there is no universal answer to this question. As far as I am concerned, I conclude that the latter one has more chance to influence the course of a community.
In the first place, I am quite in favor of the author’s idea that it is beyond a shadow of doubt that a business leader is of great significance to the society. The reason to be presented to support my view is that the prosperity of a booming nation is closely related to the development of business. Armed with the latest technology and a group of inspired dreamers, the business leader gaily embarked on their enterprise which may contribute to the nation. To illustrate, without the success of Bill Gates, it is almost impossible for the world to enter the Microsoft world. Thus, it is apparent that we could never emphasize the influence that the business leaders bring to us.
In the second place, I disagree with the author that the probability for the businessman to influence is more than government official. The point for me to argue is that what invariably happens is that deciding the nation’s course needs great power, which can be only generated from absolutely authority. Yet even a cursory review of the history reveals substantial evidence that it is the government leader rather than the business leader that can make the pivotal decision when the nation is in crisis. There is no better example than this to illustrate the strength of the point: in the great depression in 1939, thousands of firms bankrupt and failed to survive. To revive the economy of the whole nation, the government came out positive policy to stimulate the economy to save the country.
Furthermore, it may sound somewhat convincing for people to argue that a successful business leader may set a good example by their legendary story or their charity. Nonetheless, this alone does not constitute a sufficient support to their influence. It is universally acknowledged that profit is the most concern of a businessman. Inevitably, a businessman may more often than not care more about his own commercial interest instead of that of the nation. When it comes to government official, it is their obligation to guard the interest of the nation. When the advantage of businessman and government official are carefully compared, the most striking conclusion is obvious.
Given the reasons discussed above, which sometimes intertwine to form an organic whole and thus become more persuasive, we may safely arrive at the conclusion that the government officials have more influence to the course of the community. |
