Hey there! No, you absolutely don’t need to write this essay. Only do it if you have something important that you haven’t covered elsewhere. So for example, a low GMAT, a low TOEFL, work gaps, etc. Beyond that, you absolutely DON’T need to write this optional essay. So go get em! Jon Frank -- by 会员 JonFrank (2010/11/1 21:25:33)
Hi Jon, I remember reading some of your other posts saying that for Johnson and CBS, optional essays may be necessary and may be a good place to throw in another piece even if there is no GPA or work gap to be explained about. Just because these two schools ask for fewer essays than the others... So for someone who's got average GPA, GMAT, and no obvious weakness, would you still recommend him/her to do the optional essay for Johnson? Thanks, Burnie -- by 会员 burnie (2010/11/2 21:16:14)
Burnie, thanks for the kind note my friend. Yes, if ever there were a time to use the optional essay to cover even the smallest weaknesses, this is the time. And yes, you may be tempted to strreeeetch your definition of a weakness. For Cornell, and perhaps CBS, you can stretch to talk about something. But if you have NO weaknesses to speak about, at all, entirely, then breathe a sigh of relief…and leave the essay out. Don’t even touch it. J Hope this helps!
