题目:”Of all the manifestation of power, restraint in the use of thatpower impresses people most.” Explain what you think this quote means anddiscuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with it. Develop yourposition with reasons and specific examples drawn from history, current events,or your own experience. The issue what is the best way for powerfulpeople to use their power to impresses the other people always capture thepublic fancy. The quote describes the idea that people who are admired by the publicmost is the one who only use the minimum amount of his or her power. Althoughthere are something valid in this statement, I, without hesitation, hold theview that what people admire most is not how much power is used, but how muchthe impact the power has on the society. As a matter of fact, people always acclaimsomeone uses his power that generate a huge influence rather than who restrainhis power to use. This point can be demonstrated by the fact that people oftenremember, even moved by, the man who donates money to AIDS research programmore than one who donate money to a AIDS patient. Since the former behavior hasa larger impact on the society than the latter. Even though the amount of moneythat is donated to the program accounts for less of the former man's propertythan that to the patient do The second example comes from the fact thatno matter how much the power of the terrorists is, every terrorist event couldimpress almost all the people in the world. The 911 incident in which twoplanes were controlled by the terrorists and crashed into and ruined the WorldTrade Centre shocked the whole world, however, several years later, the Somaliapirates impress the whole world once again, even though they just restraintheir power in the relatively limited area. Also, the national power used to adjust orregulate the economy provides another good example that object to the quote.Decades ago, when the economy of other countries were far behind that of US,the idea of free market, which requires the government use as little aspossible power to regulate the economy and be regarded as the reason of theprosperity in America, was considered the bible of developing countries.Nonetheless, the impressive raise of China economy gives the world anotherchoice that the government power could play a predominating role in economydevelopment. In my final conclusion, all the argumentsand examples above have clearly proved that, contrary to the position in the quote, many people- if not all- are not impressed by who restrained to use his powerbut by the man who use his power to generated a huge impact, positive ornegative, on the society.
