2016 OR application profile evaluation

Test Scores (GMAT/GRE): GRE-- V152, Q168, AW4.0
Undegrad GPA: 3.45/4.0 from Top2 university in China major in EE
Graduate GPA: 3.8 from TOP15 university in US, master in Statistics, PhD in Mechanical Engineering
Research Experience: no direct research experience in OR. Had 5 year experience in experimental Mechanical Engineering field. Had a master thesis in Stats about stock portfolio construction
Teaching Experience: TA for 2 courses (60+ students)Working Experience: Engineer in production development in small company in US
Letters: not sure yet
Concentration Applying to: Operation Research/Management
Number of programs planned to apply to: 10-15

My experience is a bit distracted. Want to get some feedback on my profile. Not quite sure if I should spend another year on gathering more OR related experience. But I think it does not hurt to give a try this year. Please advice. Thanks.

Overall, very impressive background. I personally think you have a good chance to get into a top notch program in OR/OM. You have very strong quantitative background and credential.

The issue is: you should make a case, in your personal statement, that your behavior to start a second PhD in the field of OR/OM is justifiable. Another break-it or make-it point is your letters. You should try to get at least one good letter from an active professor in OR/OM to demonstrate your potential to be an outstanding researcher. You should also emphasize your maturity in both research and personality.
