11.   Like the color-discriminating apparatus of the human eye, insects’ eyes depend on recording and comparing light intensities in three regions of the electromagnetic spectrum.

(A) insects’ eyes depend on

(B) an insect eye depends on

(C) that of insects depend on the

(D) that of an insect’s eye depends onD

(E) that of an insect’s is dependent on the

why is the answer D? i thought D has "shuang chong suo you ge" which is definately wrong.(excuse me i couldn't type chinese) i found the orignal sentence in the new york times.

"Like the color-discriminating apparatus of the human eye, that of insects depends on recording and comparing light intensities in three regions of the electromagnetic spectrum. "

It is a mis-concept that "shuang chong suo you ge" is wrong.
In fact, if you search through OG/Prep, you will find some evidences. ;-)
In E, "eye" is missing after "insect's".  You might argue that it is omitted but I doubt that you can omit something that is not so parallel - insect's (possessive noun) vs. human (adjective).  I am not 100% positive tho.
Also, "the" in E makes "recording" and "comparing" function as adjectives, making the sentence non-sense.
