放不放弃看推荐信的权利?

大家如果让推荐人写推荐信的话,是否放弃看推荐信的权利?有的学校上说美国的法律是允许学生看任何跟自己相关的记录,包括推荐信,但是学生可以WAIVE看推荐信的权利.请问为何要放弃推荐信的权利,是为了表示对推荐人的信任吗?

我问了一个在admission office帮忙工作的留学生,他说放不放弃没什么区别.

大家怎么看?

You'd better waive the right. However, if the recommender permits, you can still read the recommendation.

我原来是相信我的 recommender的,叫他不要把这件事情告诉我的老板,可是没想到他居然跟我老板说了, 而且并没有告诉我他告诉了我老板.这个导致我也不相信他到底都在recommendation letter里写了些什么东西,想看.

You may want to read it but is there anything you can change, if anything negative goes into the recommendation? If you don't check the box, the admissions office may (or may not) doubt the validity of your recommendation. I'd think you have very little control over the former but the latter could work against you.

I don't know. The student working in the admission office says they don't really care whether you waive your right to read the recommendation or not.But if so, why do they ask?
