Received Stern admission Feb 8 and Tuck Mar 17.
After one month's struggling, I'm determined on heading Stern.
1. Location. Stern enjoys the advantage of unrivaled business environment in NY. It's closer to the real world and has a Wall Street neighbor. Although Hanover is pretty, the level of business exposure is no match for NY. Have to admit impact of environment is not what you can get from professor's lectures and case studies. (Imagine how you benefit from Shanghai/Beijing vs a small quiet town)
2. Job placement. Stern's placement on Wall Street and in NY is excellent. As I desire to work couple of years in NY upon graduation, Stern is particularly attractive. Tuck is also strong in finance jobs, but Stern has easier access.
3. Alumni. Talked to both. Both schools are extremely nice and responsive. However, the Chinese students I met at Stern are really high caliber and warm hearted. (I am not saying Tuck students are lower profile)
4. Brand. Tuck has the edge of Ivy League, but Stern is the Top Notch program for finance. Since my short term goal is still finance (currently I'm in M&A), it's probably a tie. In the longer term when I work back in Asia, neither is the type with hundreds of alumni in Shanghai... However, NYU enjoys a slightly higher reputation internationally from names like Alan Greenspan, Ang Lee (Brokearm Mountain) and Ma Yingjiu. (Some names are even recognized by my Father)
5. Life style. I'm not a big fan of winter sports like hocky and skiing (the most popular activities in Tuck), but I do love dance. NY as one of world's centers of arts apparently appeal to my hobby. Fashion is another plus for NY.
To me, two years' MBA is not just about study, but more of a life experience. I trust Tuck will provide a unique experience, but I just feel NY is more of the place for me.
