The admission committee takes no more than a cursory glance at an applicant's application form, usually as the item placed on top of his/her package. That said, in case the disability noted therein catches their eyes, that will almost surely adversely affect his/her chances, especially if the candidate pool is particularly strong overall. Remember, the idea of working with a student with a disability generally does not appeal to a faculty member.
My take is that if the condition is minor or whether it is considered a disability is country/culture - specific, you do not have to include such information. Otherwise, in order to be on the safe side only apply to those where reporting disabilities is optional. |
