A的错误在于：today/now意思重复，罗嗦；than的比较对象不明；their的指代不清；

C明确表达了两个时代small cars关于fuel-efficient间的比较，正确。

我对a也很犹豫，但认为c改变了句子要表达的重心。stoneren你对这点怎么看？

I think, some mistakes cause the sentence unclear and confusing:

"their" means manufacturers or cars (指代不淸）

”more fuel-efficient small cars” 不夠”small cars that are more fuel-efficient ”淸晰

我觉得C 也有问题。主语说的是TODAY，而C中at any other time in history 说的是TODAY is a part of HISTORY.所以当时就把C 给排处了。。不知道大家怎么看？

so the clause is necessary.
