Presumably the professor has begun to doubt the promise or publishability of the project. This should not be a cause for concern, though. As a PhD applicant, you are advised to predominantly focus on standardized tests, program choice, and crafting of application documents. Admission committees, esp. those at top schools, usually do not pay much attention to an applicant's research credentials unless these include a publication at a decent journal. What they really care about are his or her academic preparedness (as demonstrated by courses taken and performance), intelligence, and future potential. |
