但想请问一下E选项，我当初排除掉的原因是觉得这里比较的对象是automobile company的research和保险公司的research
但是E选项像是用company's research on crashes和 research conducted by the insurance company比较了，一个是对于crashes的research，一个只是research

求大神解答！

后者（主句中）的research加了the, 就是指针对跟前者同样情况/事件(automobile company's research on crashes) 的research.

个人理解

首先肯定是research 对应research，那abc就没了。

Unlike the automobile company’s research (on crashes involving sport utility vehicles)
这个从句里面，括号里的介词短语是来修饰名词research的。

the research （conducted by the insurance company） took into account such factors as a driver’s age.
这个句子括号里的内容也是modifier, 用来修饰名词research的. 这个句子的动词是took

这样就不存在比较不了的问题了
