TWE183(当TWE遭遇Movie Fan)

Films, as an indispensable form of art, reflect a country like a mirror. Besides, films differ from other art forms such as literature and music in that the moving pictures impress viewers in a more vivid way, which will illustrate the landscape and scenery of the country, the ethics and customs as well as its historical events. Due to so many French films I have watched, France seems to be a familiar country to me although I have never been there.

Many French films like Eric Rohmer’s “Tale for Four Seasons” depict the beautiful and warm south France near Provence. In Rohmer’s light-hearted comedies, we can nearly smell the fragrant oder of the autumn vineyards and the wildflowers in the valley. While his stories about friendship and love, fidelity and betrayal move us, the southern France with abundant sunshine and good weather also occur to our mind. On the other hand, the cool northern area is always the environment where Robert Bresson’s heroines grew up. They are usually as lonely and silent as those bleak villages. In this sense, different films usually show us different landscapes, which are required by reality as well as the movie theme. Hence, no wonder why Carax would re-build the Pont Neuf for his film in 1995, “the lovers on the Pont Neuf”.

Landscape is a critical element for films, however, a film will be reduced to trash without thinking of ethics. Ethics is a perpetual subject of French films that is especially stressed and strengthened by the New Wave directors like Francois Truffaut and Jean Luc Godard. For instance, French films pay much attention to the ethics of adolescents. “The 400 blows “by Truffaut discussed a young boy’s desire to be independent and anxiety to grow up.

Furthermore, even art films often show a country’s historical events, not to mention the documentaries. There are numerous French films on famous figures from Napoleon to Queen Margot, which lead us to understand the colorful history of France.

As a movie fan, the three aspects above are the most attractive feathers of films on a country: the illustration of landscapes, the thinking of ethics and the description of history. Of course, more virtues could be mentioned as to the influence of films. And perhaps  that is why films have appealed so many audience in the world since they were invented more than 100 years ago.

Films, as an indispensable form of art, reflectI am afraid the usage of reflect is not accurate here a country like a mirror. Besides, films differ from other art forms such as literature and music in that the moving pictures impress viewers in a more vivid way, which will illustrate the landscape and scenery of the country, the ethics and customs as well as its historical events. Due to the usage of Due to is not very appropriate here . I will use From the many French .... so many French films I have watched, LACE w:st="on">FranceLACE> seems to be a familiar country to me although I have never been there.Probably you can make the argument more precisely focused on the question

Thanks again for your kindness, Pumpkin(I just came back from a research program in Shaanxi and found some people there named Pumpkin "North Melon" ). I will take the exam on Aug20. A little anxious.

Films, as an indispensable form of art, is like a kaleidoscope of a country, from which people could view every aspects of a country. Besides, films differ from other art forms such as literature and music in that the moving pictures impress viewers in a more vivid way, which will illustrate the landscape and scenery of the country, the ethics and customs as well as its historical events.A wide assotment of French films I have watched clearly shows us the landscapes of France, the French ethics as well the historic events in the coutry.

Therefore, few other items in art and society can illustrate a country more vividly and more detailedly than films. If you want to understand any country more, please go to cinema to watch the films produced there.
