105. Students at universities often have a choice of places to live. They may choose to live in university dormitories, or they may choose to live in apartments in the community. Compare the advantages of living in university housing with the advantages of living in an apartment in the community. Where would you prefer to live? Give reasons for your preference.
As soon as we receive an admission from a university, the first decision we have to make is that which kind residences we should choose to live in, university dormitories or private apartments. However, both of the options have their own advantages and seem like six of the one and half dozen of the other. So, mostly, which one we choose are relatively depended on individuals’ personal preferences.
Generally, the greatest advantage of living in a university dormitory is the convenience it brings to us. As we know, most dormitories are built in campus so that students living in dormitories can easily and readily access to any university facilities such as the library, classrooms and the stadium. For instance, in my college walking from the dormitory to the library only takes two minutes. However, living in dormitories also brings us some troubles. Such as, we have to live with 3 or more students together which might lead some of us feel less free and private.
On the other hand, living off-campus, similarly, has some merits. Among these are the freedom and privacy the most significant. For example when we live in an apartment, we can easily decide when to sleep and when to get up by our own life styles. However, it also has some disadvantages, such as the rent fee which might be more expensive than living in school and the time consumed for commuting between the school and the room which are comparatively longer.
As to me, considering my life style and my personality, I will choose to live in a private apartment. First I am not quite outgoing so living with other students will make me feel uncomfortable. Further more, my living style are quite different from others’; I prefer to study later at night and get up later, which would inevitably disturb other’s rest. Last, my apartment is very close to our campus and I already have a bicycle so the time cost in my way to school is acceptable.
In conclusion, choosing to live in a private apartment will always be my first option. Although living in school dormitories are saving time and cost, as to me, the freedom and the privacy acquired in a private apartment are much more attractive.
