我对这个解释搞不懂，上面说得“介词+名词”在定语从句中作表语时等等，是不是写错了什么啊？

为何不可以是to save the seeds? 有的解释是说：thereby 在这里和to重复了？故错。这样解释对吗？

这么看好像是有点别扭，不过equal to应该就是看成一个介词短语，介词或介词短语加名词的情况，就符合了“高分语法”说法。

觉得因为主句中用的是by doing sth，而没有用to 这个目的状语，thereby是一个连接词，这里可以认为后面的也是跟前面相并列的目的状语，所以用doing sth比较好。

我觉得thereby 和to,的确重复了，thereby,做副词]，是由此的意思，也就是应该是表示目的。所以不可以和to连用~
