求解关于 double和twice用法解释有冲突的两道题

题目A：According to surveys by the National Institute on Drug Abuse, about 20 percent of young adults used cocaine in 1979, doubling those reported in the 1977 survey.
(A) doubling those reported in the 1977 survey
(B) to double the number the 1977 survey reported
(C) twice those the 1977 survey reported
(D) twice as much as those reported in the 1977 survey
(E) twice the number reported in the 1977 survey (correct)
double可以做动词、名词、形容词、副词。这里的double作为名词，显然逻辑主语不对，同时伴随状语伴随的是verb，而我们在考虑逻辑主语是因为verb需要动作的发出者；
twice只能做副词（不是形容词）所以修饰as...as...，而不能修饰number或者其他名词或者代词。
所以，只有E正确。
另外，结合下面的题目，纵向分析，double在这里是一种比较，gmat要求比较的平行：X double Y 的情况下，X与Y要属性一致，X＝20 percent of young adults（of young adults修饰 20 percent)，也就是说X的属性是个百分比，那么Y的属性也要是个百分比，所以加上those reported （为啥是those？因为adults；为啥有些20%是that，因为20%修饰的是单数，例如cake。cake可以切开来，adult的20%就比较恐怖了

另外一道题B：The number of people flying first class on domestic flights rose sharply in 1990, doubling the increase of the previous year.
a. doubling the increase of (correct)
b. doubling that of the increase in
c. double as much as the increase of
d. twice as many as the increase in
e. twice as many as the increase of
Ron大神和baby姐说的都没错，因为他（她）们贯通了，在这里浅显点表示：
double在这里有2种用法（1）动词：选项a&b；（2）副词：选项c。
twice如上题所述，只有副词一种用法。
所以单看选项貌似都没错，那么这里错的关键点是啥？......。
前半句The number of people flying first class on domestic flights rose sharply in 1990（假设为X），这里是一个whole number的概念，举例来说，1990年做头等舱飞国内线的人有100个，这里的A就是100这个数字，那么平行的Y也必须是个数字，而不可以是％等。回到选项，貌似都没错，那么取决于double和twice到底在句子的作用，所以又回到伴随状语。伴随状语到底伴随什么？伴随主句的动词，同时要与主句动词的逻辑主语一致，那么这里逻辑主语有了the number，主句的动词也有了rise，那么逗号后面的伴随状语应该修饰rose并且是以number为逻辑主语。正如Ron大神说的twice as many as 在这里不是伴随状语，因为many没法修饰动词rise。举个例子：Leaves fall twice as quickly as they grow. 在这里，quickly作为副词修饰动词fall，而twice作为副词修饰的是as...as。所以twice as many as肯定错了，同理as much as。但是c (double as much as the increase of )错在double在这里没有主语，同时没有连接词，所以错多多。剩下a. doubling the increase of &b. doubling that of the increase in，这就不用纠结了，increase of啦。

必须再次提醒：twice只有副词的作用，manhattan 5版有twice用法的说明，twice the number口语可以，但是这是gmat。

参考prep08语法笔记
伴随状语可由1.独立主格来当。由一个名词或者代词（做该短语的逻辑主语）加上一个分词、形容词、副词、动词不定时式或介词短语（做该短语的逻辑谓语）构成。with 、each等
2.分词短语分为主动意义：he sent me an email hoping to get further information.
被动意义：he hurried to the hall, followed by two men.
现在分词做伴随状语时，有两个情况第一、前一个分句地整体对后面某个对象的作用。第二、两个同时发生的动作。She is sitting there,reading a book.这种情况我们可以通过在两个分句中间加上and，不改变句义来判断
3.形容词短语,通常表示状态
Full of apologise,the manager approached us.
4.单个形容词，表状态不表动作
He sat there, silent.他一声不响地坐在那。
