Answer the question(s) askedand write your own essays/personal statements.  

The essay will help the Admissions Committee get toknow you as an individual. It is a chance for you to introduce yourself, andalong with the other parts of the application, present a full picture of whoyou are. The essay also helps the Admissions Committee to understand how yousee the fit between yourself and the school.  

Schools ask many different kinds of questions, so you should plan to tailor your essaysfor each individual school. Avoid submitting a generic essay because you may be passing up anopportunity for the Admissions Committee to learn more about you.

Be concise and clear,and make sure you have clearly identified/defined your goals for businessschool and beyond.

Proof-read your essays – again and again – and have someone else proofreadthem. Your reader should be to discern what your goals are, why you areapplying to the program and what makes you a great candidate. If not, then youmay want to consider reworking your essays.  

The Admissions Committee wants to see that you are putting your best footforward, so make sure your essays are free of punctuation, grammar and contexterrors.

Don’t plagiarize and don’t pull essays fromthe Internet.Your work should be your own. That’s how we get to learn about you. Schools nowhave access to software that can identify millions of essays previouslypublished on the Internet. If you use these essays, or portions of them,schools will be able to detect this using the software.  

Don’t exceed the word limit for essay your essay(s). Word count varies amongschools, so make sure that you are following instructions for each individualschool.  

Don’t just write about how youthink a school’s MBA program will help you. This is important, but rememberthat you are also going to be joining a community. It’s helpful to talk about how you see yourself asa member of that community and how you see yourself making a contribution.

Don’t make the mistake of including the wrong school name in your essay. That’s an indication that myprogram is not very important to you. Proof-read, edit – pay attention to allof these details.

2 INTERVIEWS:
Many schools offer interviewson an invitation-basis. Make sure that you know your schools’ policy oninterviews. If you are invited, be prepared to talk about your accomplishmentsand challenges you may have encountered. Many schools use a behavioral approachto interviewing, so plan to talk about specific situations in which you actedor had an impact. For example, if you are asked to talk about a particular timewhen you worked on a project with a team, talk about the team project but also your contribution.Just hearing about the team’s work will not be helpful to the Committee, as itwill provide any insight about you.

The interview is a goodopportunity for the Admissions Committee to learn more about you, yourexperiences and your goals. It is also a way to assess how you might fit inwith the school’s community and culture, as well as your potential forsuccessfully representing the school to employers (for internships andpost-graduate positions).  

Present a professionalimage for your interview whether it’s in person, by phone, via Skype or otherinterview format. Dressprofessionally, even if you are interviewing via Skype in your bedroom. Bemindful of your background.

Dont's
Don’t ask obviousquestions during your interview if invited. Don’t ask questions you can easily find theanswers to - such as the school’s website. Reserve this valuable time to askthe interviewer questions that will show that you are very interested in and knowledgeableabout the program and that will illustrate that you have done your homework.Have a sense of what makes the program unique or different.  

Don’t treat an interviewwith Skype as something that is casual. You are setting an impression(perhaps a first and lasting impression), and you want to make sure it is astrong one. Show the interviewer that you are taking this seriously and dressprofessionally. Find a quiet space where you will not be distracted and takecare to make note of your background (which your interviewer will see).
