Workers in the small town of Leeville take fewer sick days than workers in the large city of Masonton, 50 miles away. Moreover, relative to population size, the diagnosis of stress-related illness is proportionally much lower in Leeville than in Masonton. According to the Leeville Chamber of Commerce, these facts can be attributed to the health benefits of the relatively relaxed pace of life in Leeville. Write a response in which you discuss one or more alternative explanations that could rival the proposed explanation and explain how your explanation(s) can plausibly account for the facts presented in the argument. According to the statement in the passage above, it is suggested that low pressure and small population size are ascribed to the health benefits of workers in Leeville. It does make some sense, however, these two facts are not persuasive enough to illustrate the causes of healthy people in Leeville and many vital aspects have been overlooked. One alternative explanation is workers in Leeville have much healthier eating habits than those in big cities. Keeping a good eating habit is very important to people’s health. For example, if a person takes in too much fat or sugar, he has a greater chance of obesity or diabetes. Some professional doctors often recommend more fruits and vegetables are necessary to lower working pressure. Besides, workers in the small town are easily access to many fresh and organic vegetables and fruits, accompanied by regular eating habits, so they tend to be much healthier. On the other hand, workers in Masonton have very limits choices about fresh foodstuff because most food has to be transferred from countryside, which takes a lot of time. What are worse, workers in big cities are heedless to eat regularly, which results in many kinds of illness, such as stomach cancer. It is very normal for a worker to eat lunch at 1PM and super at 10 PM because they have so much work to do or conferences to attend. If they can insist on a healthy eating habit, many illnesses will be gone. Environment is also another crucial cause. With the development of industrialization, there are more and more cars and top buildings in big cities, while forests are disappearing. Consequently, air quality is devastating. There are increased population suffering from air pollution and get sick. Furthermore, strident noise has been made by vehicles and construction, leading to people’s irreconcilable pressure. Such harsh environment has a conspicuously negative effect on workers’ health. On the contrary, workers in small cities enjoy fresh air, clean water, birds singing and so on. They can go on a picnic on the green grassland with their family on the weekend and get close with the beautiful nature. I once lived in the small town before college. It was very happy to live there because of the enthralling surroundings. I can see sun rise at the east and play on the extensive beach as long as I wish; it dissipated all my pressure and anxiety and I felt so relaxed. On the basis of the above discussion, although the point of view of the speaker is reasonable, other explanations like healthier eating habits and ecological environment are necessary to illustrate the cause of healthy workers in Leeville.
